Bitsensing is a radar technology company focusing on bringing level 5 autonomous vehicles to the market, and is currently developing Augmented Imaging Radar, 4D Imaging Radar, and AIR 4D.

AIR 4D can accurately detect objects in any weather conditions with its high-performing 4D imaging radar sensor and Multi-Chip Cascading technology, which will enhance the radar’s resolution and make the radar price competitive with other sensors in the market.

Unlike existing automotive radar sensors that only has a horizontal resolution, bitsensing’s radar has both horizontal and vertical resolutions, which enables 4D imaging (3D spatial information + 1D speed information). Bitsensing also uses camera fusion technology and artificial intelligence/machine learning to improve vehicles’ detection of nearby environment or objects and overcome problems with other automotive sensors, advancing the age of the level 5 autonomous vehicle world.

Radar is shortened from Radio Detection And Ranging and it can reliably detect areas that are not visible with human eye for object direction, range or speed. It has been utilized since the 2nd world war and recently it is actively used in other industries especially for Automotive sector. The 95% of the car accident death is caused by human error and to support less reliable person’s detection and perception Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is developed by fusing various sensors to reduce human error with safety assist and driving automation.

The main sensors that are currently used in autonomous vehicles are cameras, Radars, and LiDARs. Cameras are effective in detecting the environment but significantly lacks stability as it is weak in bad weather conditions.

LiDARs can accurately detect the area in 3D which is why many companies are developing LiDAR sensors, but similar to cameras, it is weak in performance during bad weather conditions and the sensors are very expensive, which makes it unlikely that they will be implemented in commercialized vehicles.

For the reasons above, Bitsensing develops the Radar since they are price competitive and unaffected by weather conditions and is working on to improve the accuracy to match that of LiDARs to lead the automotive sensor market in the future.

Our goal is to develop a High Performance 4D Imaging Radar with Horizontal/Vertical 1°/2° Resolution we can provide Point Cloud Data like LiDAR and through Radar + Cameral sensor fusion and AI machine learning technology.

It is necessary to realize that reifying the level 5 autonomous vehicle era needs much planning and investment. Road infrastructures, law enforcement and the change of awareness by consumers to the autonomous vehicles are only some requirements to bring a fully autonomous vehicle to the market. bitsensing therefore aims to solve problems and target tasks that needs to be resolved before bringing level 5 autonomous vehicles and use the radar technology in general to make the world a safer place.

Smart cities utilizes ICT to solve inefficiencies in traffic, environment, and governance problems and makes citizens’ experience in the city more comfortable and pleasant. In the case of smart traffic for a level 5 autonomous vehicle era, both sensors of the vehicle and the road infrastructure needs to become smarter. bitsensing's AIR(Augmented Imaging Radar) Traffic will innovate the traffic infrastructure, which will become a necessary factor in smart city and become the ground for the level 5 autonomous vehicle era with real-time traffic data collection and data processing technology. This way we can build an HD Map that is mapped in 3D to include information such as road conditions, elevation of the road etc. This map will be 10 times more accurate than original 2D maps, and can utilized to monitor lane by lane traffic to operate as a “Real time dynamic map” that will help drivers get to their destination safely, and in shorter time.

For full autonomous driving to be realized, we believe there is a necessity to not only monitor the environment outside the car, but also within the car, such as monitoring the driver or passenger. Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) is a technology that identifies rear occupant’s presence and send alerts to driver for baby or kids’ safety. In 2020 July U.S. House of Representatives passed the Hot Cars Act of 2019, which would require rear seat detection technology in new vehicles. In Euro NCAP 2025 Roadmap, Europe will grant additional 4 points to automakers that will adopt Child Presence Detection technology to their new cars by 2022.

bitsensing’s mini radar is the world’s smallest smart sensor that can safely monitor the passengers within a vehicle without the need for a wearable. Since mini uses the radar, it does not concern any privacy issues while detecting a person’s movement, vital sign, falls, presence within a specific area, abnormal behaviors such as apnea. Unlike PIR motions sensors or weight sensors that are used in vehicles today, mini can monitor the driver or passenger even if they are not moving.

Bitsensing’s ROA radar can detect vital signs like breathing beyond cloth or blanket so it can detect presence of a sleeping baby or kids underneath the blanket in real-time. It can also tell if the occupants are adult or baby or lifeless forms like bags.
